Regionalization plan heads to General Conference

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UM News) — A key United Methodist leadership body has given unanimous approval to submitting a proposal for worldwide regionalization to the denomination’s top lawmaking assembly. The legislative package aims to give Africa, Europe, the Philippines and the U.S. equal standing in church decision-making. Heather Hahn reports.

Peninsula-Delaware Conference
New book revives Nanticoke language 

DOVER, Del. — The Committee on Native American Ministries of the Peninsula-Delaware Conference is reviving the Nanticoke language in a newly published book, “Once It Has Been Spoken … It Cannot Be Unspoken; Kutikitowakanun, Our Nanticoke Language.” The project, in the works for several years, will be celebrated Sept. 9 in a ceremony where the book will be formally presented to the Nanticoke Tribe. Raggatha Calentine has the story.

Cold water connects church to community

DALLAS — “I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,” Jesus said in Matthew 25. Every Saturday morning, you will find members of Warren United Methodist Church handing out ice-cold bottles of water in front of the church. The church runs its Hydration Station from 10 a.m. to noon weekly and sees this as a vital opportunity to connect with its community. North Texas Conference staff report.

More than $150,000 in wellness grants awarded

WASHINGTON — The United Methodist Commission on Religion and Race has announced the recipients of the CORR Action Fund Grant program, an initiative aimed at fostering mental health awareness and wellness through the creation of cohorts and small groups. The grants, ranging from several hundred to $10,000, were open to both United Methodist pastors and laity in the United States.

Finance and Administration
Agency holds training for African leaders

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The General Council on Finance and Administration, the denomination’s finance agency, completed a successful training for African United Methodist leaders. Topics included updates on the Episcopal Fund, the disaffiliation process in the U.S., apportionment collections and calculations, and the resources and support services available from GCFA.
