Bishop Talbert, advocate for justice, dies
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UM News) — From humble beginnings as one of seven children born to sharecropper parents in rural Louisiana, retired United Methodist Bishop Melvin G. Talbert took his ministry of justice and love for all people around the globe. Talbert died last week at the age of 89. Kathy L. Gilbert reports.

Girl’s lemonade stand benefits UMCOR
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Six-year-old Etta Bolte contributed $400 to the United Methodist Committee on Relief from sales at her lemonade stand — and a few large donations. Etta and her mother, Ann, traveled from their hometown of Augusta, Arkansas, to Little Rock to present a check to Arkansas Conference Bishop Laura Merrill. Day Davis reports.

Congregation goes from two buildings to none
THETFORD, Vt. — When United Church of Thetford formed from the merger of North Thetford Federated and Timothy Frost United Methodist churches, it had both church buildings in its care. Now, it doesn’t have any — and the congregation couldn’t be more pleased. Though the congregation continues to worship in and use the space, it donated one building to a local nonprofit and the other to the city of Thetford. New England Conference staff report.

Linda Furtado of the Scarritt Bennett Center, who also is pastor of Beech Grove United Methodist Church, is interviewed on the show. Hosted by Diana Sanchez-Bushong, Lisa Hancock and Derek Weber of Discipleship Ministries, “Worship Matters” deals with the intricacies of planning worship each week.

Children raise money to help rebuild health clinic
PITTSBURGH — It may take a village to raise a child, but can children help lift up a village? That was the case when some Pittsburgh area youngsters helped raise money to rebuild a medical clinic located 8,000 miles away in a tiny village in Zimbabwe. The children’s efforts are part of a decade-long plan led by The Nyadire Connection to rebuild six United Methodist health clinics in the country. Tim Wesley has the story.

LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. — Two “Journey to Joy” retreats for women are scheduled at Lake Junaluska, a picturesque facility historically linked to The United Methodist Church.
