Revive event lifts up servant leaders in the Philippines

CABANATUAN CITY, Philippines (UM News) — Before three new bishops were elected in the Philippines, delegates to the special session of the Philippines Central Conference and other United Methodists gathered for song, dance, prayers and messages on servant leadership. The third Revive event was designed to “guide the hearts, the heads and the hands” of delegates in electing new bishops. Gladys P. Mangiduyos reports.

New community center expands church’s ministry

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — For decades, Asbury First United Methodist Church has offered food distribution, community meals, medical services, haircuts, laundry and clothing to the Rochester community. Now, these services and more will be offered more frequently and will be housed under one roof, at the newly renovated and expanded Community Outreach Center. Shannon Hodson has the story.

Church packs 25,000 meals to fight hunger

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Assembly lines of over 100 volunteers were stuffing bags with rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and more to help fight world hunger Dec. 7. The event was a part of a long-standing partnership between First United Methodist Church in Montgomery and Rise Against Hunger, an international nonprofit and United Methodist partner. Brady Talbert reports.

Bishops announce grant, scholarship recipients
 
WASHINGTON — The Council of Bishops has announced recipients of the 2023 Local Initiative Grants and six scholarships for those United Methodists who will represent the denomination at the 2023 Parliament of the World’s Religions. The $1,000 Local Initiative Grants are designed to help annual conference groups create ministry projects that are ecumenical and/or interreligious.
