Evangelists aim to bring Bible to life

SYKESVILLE, Pa. (UMNS) — After 21 years in nursing, Luella Krieger found a new vocation portraying different women in the Bible. She and other United Methodist evangelists who proclaim the gospel are finding new ways to lead revival. But, as Heather Hahn reports, it’s a challenging career path. Membership agencies focus on advocacy, connections

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) — The membership agencies of the denomination — United Methodist Men and United Methodist Women — are advocates on issues that include domestic violence, maternal and child health and environmental justice. United Methodists in DRC get farming help

KINDU, Democratic Republic of Congo (UMNS) — The Global Health unit of the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries is helping farmers in the East Congo Conference improve agricultural production. The mission agency has provided a grant to support a food security project aimed at fighting malnutrition in the area. The 12-month program targets United Methodists from 10 local churches, with 200 households participating. Chadrack Tambwe Londe reports.

Texas Conference 
Bishop Jones and team visit Laos

HOUSTON — Bishop Scott Jones recently led a Texas Conference team on a trip to Laos. The Council of Bishops assigned him as episcopal leader of United Methodist mission initiatives in that country and Thailand. In Laos, Jones commissioned three pastors and taught on pastoral care and stewardship. He has done a Q&A about the trip with Sherri Gragg.

Board of Higher Education and Ministry 
New documentary features BCF schools

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A new documentary that examines the impact of historically black colleges and universities on U.S. history, culture and identity prominently features Bennett College. The Greensboro, North Carolina, college is one of the 11 historically black schools supported by the Black College Fund of The United Methodist Church. “Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities” also lists the other BCF schools. The documentary will premiere Feb. 19 on PBS’ “Independent Lens.”
