Reflecting on 2022: The year in photos
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UM News) — Amid challenges from an evolving denomination, multiple natural disasters, the war in Ukraine and a continuing struggle to address migration, United Methodists continued to live out their faith and serve their communities in 2022. Photographers from UM News, the denomination's official news service, documented a year in the life of United Methodism worldwide.

Question about bishop complaints added to docket
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Judicial Council has added to its docket a request from the Council of Bishops to rule on the constitutionality of parts of Paragraph 413 in the denomination’s Book of Discipline. The measures in question provide a way for the Council of Bishops as a whole to address complaints under church law against fellow bishops. The bishops requested the church court give their question expedited consideration. Briefs are due Feb. 1 and reply briefs are due Feb. 11.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI leaves ecumenical legacy
GENEVA — Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who died Dec. 31 at age 95, was the first pope to have belonged to a committee of the World Council of Churches. He served on the ecumenical organization’s Faith and Order Commission. The World Council of Churches has a remembrance.

WASHINGTON — The United Methodist Board of Church and Society's board announced the recipients of the 2022 Peace with Justice, Human Relations Day and Ethnic Local Church grants. The recipients include United Methodist churches and ministries across the U.S., Africa and the Philippines.

Solidarity with India’s persecuted Christians
WASHINGTON — The New Federation of Asian American United Methodists and Indian Caucus of The United Methodist Church have issued a statement condemning the harassment and violence faced by Christians and other minority religious communities, including Muslims, in India. The statement warns of a group doing fundraising in the U.S. to promote Hindu nationalism in India.

Kenaston chosen as interim leader
CHICAGO — The Connectional Table, the leadership body that coordinates denominationwide resources and ministry, has named Judi Kenaston as its interim chief connectional ministries officer. Kenaston succeeds newly elected Bishop Kennetha Bigham-Tsai, who is now assigned to the Iowa Conference.
