Leaders call for release of 2 missionaries
MANILA, Philippines (UMNS) — United Methodist leaders held a press conference July 2 to appeal for the release of two missionaries being detained by the Philippineís government.  Adam Shaw, a third missionary, was expelled and will return to Ohio next week. Jan Snider has the story.
 
 
Church members respond to Annapolis shooting
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Even as the community reeled at news of a mass shooting, staff at the Capital Gazette continued their work, putting out a paper the next day. United Methodists also were among the helpers, including the Rev. Carletta Allen, chaplain with the sheriffís department. Erik Alsgaard reports.
 
 
Congo United Methodists provide meal to prisoners
LODJA, Congo (UMNS) — Seven days of ecumenical prayer earlier this year inspired members of the United Methodist South Lodja District to prepare a special meal for more than 130 prisoners. In many Congo prisons, prisoners do not automatically receive meals. François Omanyondo Djonga has the story.
