DALLAS (UM News) — Though many churches are taking steps to reopen, the number of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. has climbed to about 2 million, with new cases increasing in some states. Also mounting are the harrowing stories of United Methodists who have been directly affected by the coronavirus. Sam Hodges reports.

Southeastern Jurisdiction
White bishops stand with African Americans

CRESTWOOD, Ky. — White bishops of the Southeastern Jurisdiction have issued a statement calling "upon all United Methodists to stand with and see our black brothers and sisters." The jurisdiction's bishops hope they expressed the opposite sentiments of the clergy letter that prompted the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. to write "Letter From a Birmingham Jail."

The Rev. Shawn R. Moore, an African American clergyman who also is a former police officer, offers his perspective on the event and the role of the church moving forward.
