United Methodists take in Ukrainian orphans
SIBIU, Romania — Children and staff from an orphanage in Kyiv, Ukraine, have been taken in by Romanian United Methodists after a thwarted abduction attempt during their refugee journey. That’s one of the stories emerging from Eastern European United Methodists’ relief work with Ukrainians, mostly women and children, who have fled their country since the Russian invasion began last month. Seed ministry helps families in Appalachia
WORTHINGTON, Ohio — About 2,500 gardens are planted each year in the Appalachia region of Ohio with help from Jackson Area Ministries, a mission project of The United Methodist Church. The program, which began in 1972, provides a way for those with a fixed or low income to have access to fresh and healthy foods. Crops, including cherry tomatoes, beans, peppers and beets, result from the efforts.

Scarritt Bennett honors pioneering women
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Scarritt Bennett Center will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its integration with a year of activities, starting with the dedication of a building named for two former students. DeLaris Johnson Risher and Lelia Robinson Dabbs were the first Black women to attend what was then Scarritt College for Christian Workers. On April 2, a building on the campus will be named the Johnson Robinson House in tribute to them. The ceremony is open to the public, and 92-year-old Johnson Risher is set to attend. Robinson died in 2002.

The live panel conversation, Leading Women: From the Pulpit to the Boardroom, is set for 6:30 p.m. U.S. Central time March 31. The speakers are Allyson F. Smith, the Rev.
