Finding ways to build peace
WASHINGTON (UMNS) — When Meagan Gaddis wrote a thank you letter to the United Methodist Board of Church and Society for its support of Exodus House, a ministry of the Oklahoma Conference, the Rev. Susan Henry-Crowe was reminded that “welcoming Meagan and her family into a new way of being out of incarceration is one critical way that we are building peace in this world.” Peace with Justice Sunday is May 31.

Candler, UGA offer dual degree
ATLANTA (UMNS) — Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, a United Methodist seminary, is partnering with the University of Georgia to offer a dual master’s in divinity and social work. “The cross-training at UGA and Emory will create a new, more effective brand of caregiver,” said Ian A. McFarland, Stokes Professor of Theology and associate dean at Candler.

Yamada returns as interim Higher Education leader
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) — Ken Yamada will serve as an interim staff executive for the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry’s Division of Higher Education beginning June 22. He previously worked at the agency from 1979 to 2011.

Young ecumenical leader named to White House panel
WASHINGTON (WCC) — U.S. President Barack Obama has named Dr. Ulysses Burley III, a World Council of Churches leader and lay preacher in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, as one of the youngest appointees to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. Burley, 32, is a clinical research associate at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

United Methodist Women’s History: Voices Lost & Found conference — In preparation for the 150th anniversary of the United Methodist Women in 2019, Methodist Theological School in Ohio will host a conference on campus, 3081 Columbus Pike in Delaware, Ohio. A $90 registration fee covers all conference activities, meals on Friday and breakfast on Saturday. One continuing education unit is available for an additional fee of $25. Details.
