Bishops urged to embrace 'more loving way'
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UM News) — As discussions about denominational separation ramp up, bishops started their fall meeting focused on the continuing United Methodist Church and anti-racism work. In this fractious time, Council of Bishops President Cynthia Fierro Harvey urged leaders to stay focused on loving God and neighbor. The bishops also elected new officers. Heather Hahn reports.

College interns bridge church and community

EMORY, Va. — Four students from Emory & Henry College said their lives were changed by a new internship program that put them in the mission field amid struggling communities. "That was really the church going beyond the four walls," said Mack Henningsen, a United Methodist clergy candidate. Annette Spence has the story.

Minnesota Conference
Doing church differently

WINONA, Minn. — The pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church is dedicated to finding new ways to build community. So far, he has opened a television studio to produce videos for the church and other area nonprofits, hired a director of community-based justice to build relationships on college campuses and given local artists and musicians a place to display their talents at the church. Christa Meland has the story.

Dania Aben Soriano, bishop's wife, dies

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Council of Bishops announced that Dania Aben Soriano, wife of retired Bishop Leo A. Soriano, died Nov. 1 in the Philippines. The Rev. Edgar de Jesus of the National Association of Filipino American United Methodists posted on Facebook that she was a great supporter of the association, a faithful servant and generous leader in the Philippines Central Conference. A celebration of her ministry and life is scheduled for Nov. 7.
