Bishop Hearn, force for missions, dies at 89
GALVESTON, Texas (UM News) — United Methodist Bishop J. Woodrow "Woody" Hearn led annual conferences in Nebraska and Texas and traveled the world as president of the Board of Global Ministries. He died Aug. 31 at age 89. Colleagues recalled his commitment to missions and ecumenical work. Sam Hodges reports.

Native American scholar earns doctorate

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Lisa Dellinger, the 49th graduate supported by the Angella P. Current-Felder Women of Color Scholars program, recently earned her doctorate at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. The second Native American graduate receiving such support, Dellinger is aware of the lack of visibility of Native Americans in theological education, and how the scholarship and mentoring program is vital in addressing that.
