Dallas police shooting prompts United Methodist march

DALLAS (UMNS) — A white Dallas police officer's fatal shooting of a black man in his apartment and authorities' handling of the case have prompted national media coverage and various demonstrations locally. One called "United Methodists of All Colors Walk for Justice" occurred Sept. 19, with clergy and others gathering outside Dallas police headquarters and marching to the nearby apartment complex where the shooting occurred. Sam Hodges reports.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Bishop David Graves and other leaders of the Alabama-West Florida Conference have announced four priorities for their work. “When we focus on disciple making, attracting talent, preaching and adaptive leadership, we are sending the message that we have a clear, concise plan to move forward,” Graves said.

New book offers tips for cross-cultural ministry

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Rev. HiRho Y. Park, an executive with the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry, has written “Develop Intercultural Competence: How to Lead Cross-Racial and Cross-Cultural Churches.” The book shows readers how to navigate the growing complexities of race, ethnicity, culture and religion and find appropriate and effective ways to make disciples of Jesus Christ in cross-cultural and cross-racial contexts.
