Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina selected Pope

Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church selected Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina as the 266th pontiff of the 1.2 billion members of the global denomination. He is the first pontiff from the Americas. The vote came at about 2 p.m. ET today. Pope Francis stepped to the balcony in St. Peter’s Square at about 3:15 p.m. ET.
