Denomination’s future under discussion — quietly
DALLAS (UMNS) — Discussions about the future of The United Methodist Church are quietly occurring among denomination leaders, after a recent General Conference that underscored deep divisions over homosexuality. Centrists and progressives have begun to meet, and separate talks are underway between some who backed the Traditional Plan and some who favored the One Church Plan. Sam Hodges reports.

SAYLLU, Sierra Leone (UMNS) — About 100 students now have the materials they need to attend a new United Methodist primary school in this remote community. The children received backpacks, uniforms, shoes, books and other learning materials from the Sierra Leone Conference’s Community Empowerment for Livelihoods and Development. Wells to succeed Schrum at Emory & Henry
EMORY, Va. — Jake B. Schrum will retire as president of Emory & Henry College on July 1, officials of the school announced. Schrum, the 21st president of the United Methodist-affiliated college, launched the School of Health Sciences, acquired the Intermont Equestrian Center and began an $80 million fundraising campaign during his tenure. His successor will be John W. Wells, the current provost and chief academic officer.
