Global Young People adopt petitions for 2016

(UMNS) — Despite enduring a devastating typhoon, United Methodist young people and adult leaders from 34 countries successfully completed their convocation and legislative assembly in the Philippines and adopted petitions for presentation to the next General Conference. United Methodist grant helps Myanmar teen
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) — After fleeing soldiers in her native Myanmar (formerly Burma) with her parents and four brothers, Mu Dah lived with her family in a refugee camp in Thailand for 12 years before they came to Nashville. The 18-year-old recent high school graduate credits an education and leadership program at Belmont United Methodist Church for her success in overcoming language and cultural challenges. The program received a 2013 $10,000 Ethnic In-Service Training grant from the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
Detroit churches need volunteers for flood relief

Eleven UM-related schools make "greenest" list
BOULDER, Colo. (UMNS) — Three United Methodist-related schools placed in the Top 10 of Sierra magazine's ranking of America's greenest colleges and universities, while eight more made the list of 173 green schools. American University in Washington ranked second, Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, was third and Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont, was No. 8.The magazine is a publication of the Sierra Club environmental group.
Virginia D.S. to run marathon for malaria fight
RICHMOND, Va. (UMNS) — The Virginia Annual (regional) Conference, after joining the Imagine No Malaria initiative this summer, is hitting the ground running. The Rev. Steve Jones, Richmond District superintendent, is asking all Richmond District churches to support his 26.2-mile run in the Oct. 12 Chicago Marathon to raise $7,500 for Imagine No Malaria. Congregations supporting the effort so far include Fairmount in Richmond, Bethel in Oilville and Bethel United Methodist Women, Centenary in Richmond and Shady Grove in Henrico.
