Revised Social Principles reflect worldwide church

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UM News) — For the past eight years, a diverse group of writers and editors has been revising the denomination’s Social Principles, which long have been an expression of the Wesleyan commitment to social holiness for The United Methodist Church. The revision heads to the 2020 General Conference for approval. Kathy L. Gilbert reports.

Summit focuses on water justice

DETROIT — The North Central Jurisdiction is gathering water advocates and experts to float ideas and inspire enthusiasm toward the development of a United Methodist-led strategy for water security. Close to one billion people lack consistent access to safe drinking water. A Global Water Justice Summit is scheduled for Jan. 24-25 at Cass Community United Methodist Church. Kay DeMoss reports.

Church forms partnership with local school

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Thousands of meals a month are being distributed as part of the partnership between Christ United Methodist Church and Buchanan Elementary School. The arrangement started with a challenge to Christ United from the school district’s superintendent to pick one school on which to focus its resources.
