General Conference organizers plan announcement
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Commission on the General Conference has been weighing whether General Conference can move forward as scheduled this year on Aug. 29-Sept. 6 in Minneapolis. The group met online Feb. 24, and after 3½ hours of closed session, the commission said it would announce the result of its deliberations within a week.

Churches to build affordable housing on properties

ATLANTA — Houses of worship own thousands of acres across the U.S., and now, through millions of dollars in new grants, congregations in Atlanta, New York, Baltimore, Miami and Seattle will be building affordable housing on their properties. Church scholarship honors John Lewis

DECATUR, Ga. — Donations from members of Decatur First United Methodist Church have made possible an endowed scholarship honoring the late congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis. The scholarship to Georgia State University will be awarded annually, beginning this fall, and recipients will be participants in My Brother’s Keeper, part of the University System of Georgia’s African American Male Initiative.

Celebrating Transfiguration Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UM News) — The Transfiguration of Jesus is referred to in the Synoptic Gospels as the moment Jesus’ appearance changes, becoming dazzlingly bright, and the voice of God calls him Son. This painting is part of the Vie de Jesus Mafa, an initiative to create a visual representation of the life of Jesus as an African man as a means to connect with and teach Mafa Christians in Cameroon, Africa. Transfiguration Sunday is observed Feb. 27.
