Simple Plan supporters talk strategy

MADISON, N.J. (UMNS) — Supporters of the Simple Plan acknowledge the legislation faces long odds at the special General Conference next month. Backers recently held a strategy session on promoting a plan that strikes out all church restrictions related to homosexuality. Heather Hahn reports.

When was the first Book of Discipline created?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The first Book of Discipline was adopted in 1784 at the historic Christmas Conference. The edition contained 81 questions and answers, following the format John Wesley modeled in the "Large Minutes" of the conferences in England. Navajo advocate speaks up for others

SHIPROCK, N.M. (UMC.org) — When Daryl Junes-Joe, a member of the Navajo Nation, retired five years ago from her work as a tribal prosecutor and advocate for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, she pictured a quiet retirement. However, God had other plans. Junes-Joe continues to be a voice for communities that are unseen and unheard.

LONDON — The Methodist Church in Britain has created a four-person team that will travel the nation in the coming months to support a network of 4,650 churches. The team will promote everyday evangelism, helping churches reach out into their local communities and starting new churches.
