Church helps family find home after tragedy
MACON, Ga. — After her daughter's death of sickle-cell disease, Shequita Manson and her older daughter moved several times, unable to find their "happy place." But today, thanks in large part to Vineville United Methodist Church, they are finally home and happy. Kara Witherow has the story.

Conference's first GC2020 listening session draws crowd
ST. GEORGE, S.C. — Nearly 200 United Methodists headed to Indian Field United Methodist Church Jan. 5 for the first of several listening sessions being held across the state, addressing questions about the upcoming 2020 General Conference. The sessions are designed to give South Carolina United Methodists the opportunity to voice concerns and share hopes and prayers with the South Carolina delegates to General Conference 2020. Jurisdiction recommends electing just 1 bishop
CHICAGO — The North Central Jurisdiction's Committee on the Episcopacy and College of Bishops have proposed electing only one bishop in 2020. The General Council on Finance and Administration informed Bishop David Bard, current president of the jurisdiction's College of Bishops, that the jurisdiction had fallen below the membership threshold to sustain nine episcopal areas and that a reduction was possible.

Allen to lead 2020 Schooler Institute on Preaching
DELAWARE, Ohio — Preacher, educator and widely published author the Rev. O. Wesley Allen Jr. will lead the 2020 Schooler Institute on Preaching at Methodist Theological School in Ohio. The two-day event will be held March 3-4 on the MTSO campus, 3081 Columbus Pike in Delaware. The event is free to the public, as is lunch both days.

Group offers 10 scholarships to GC2020
CONCORD, N.C. — The group United Methodist Rural Advocates is offering 10 scholarships to cover housing and some meals of people attending the 2020 General Conference. People meeting the group's criteria can apply by Feb. 28. The scholarships are made possible by a grant from the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries.
