Diverse leaders’ group offers separation plan

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UM News) — A diverse, 16-member team of church leaders, including bishops and advocacy group leaders, has offered a proposal that would preserve The United Methodist Church while allowing traditionalist-minded congregations to form a new denomination. Proposal backers say it could end the denomination’s impasse over homosexuality. Sam Hodges reports.

Bishop Eutsler, trusted leader, dies at 100
MECHANICSVILLE, Va. (UM News) — Bishop R. Kern Eutsler is being remembered as a “strong yet compassionate” leader who was both a master preacher and administrator. Eutsler, who led the Holston Conference from 1984 to 1988, died Jan. 2 at 100. Heather Hahn has the obituary.

Men’s ministries look back at busy year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — During 2019, the Commission on United Methodist Men created more small groups, released its first study of discipleship and tackled domestic violence. Last year, The United Methodist Church also took the lead among denominations in providing a home base for Scouts BSA. The Rev. Rich Peck offers a wrap-up for the previous year.

South Carolina Conference
Poor People’s Campaign active in South Carolina

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — United Methodists in South Carolina will be active in voter registrations, a rally and march in January, part of the national Poor People’s Campaign. The events are part of a 25-state “We Must Do More” tour set to culminate in a mass rally June 20 in Washington. Jessica Brodie reports.
