HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. — Pastors and laypeople facing burnout can look to John Wesley for a road to recovery. The founder of Methodism wrote often about health habits, recommending exercise, eating nutritional food and going to bed and rising early. Jim Patterson reports.

Fire destroys church building

DE PERE, Wis. — New Hope United Methodist Church will hold Sunday services July 4 despite a June 25 fire that destroyed its building. Bethany United Methodist Church in Green Bay has opened its doors for New Hope to continue worship as it looks for a new site to rebuild. New Hope’s pastor, the Rev. Rick Haberland, reminded the congregation that the church is more than a building. Gabriella Premus reports.

Migrants need help in Europe

ATLANTA — The United Methodist Committee on Relief needs donations for its work helping refugees trying to enter the European Union. About 18,000 attempt to pass through the Croatia border each year. UMCOR supports Church World Service, which tries to assist the migrants. Christie R. House reports.

Lydia Patterson Institute looking for new president

EL PASO, Texas — The United Methodist-supported Lydia Patterson Institute, which has long offered a college prep education to Hispanic students on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, will be getting a new leader. Socorro de Anda announced her retirement in March after more than 30 years as president. Todd Seifert and David Burke of the Great Plains Conference have a video, podcast and story about de Anda’s legacy.
