(UM News) — U.S. annual conferences elected more delegates opposed to the Traditional Plan, but traditionalists estimate they still have the majority overall for General Conference 2020. Mountain Sky Conference
Two LGBTQ candidates join the ministry

BILLINGS, Mont. — Two out lesbians were part of the “Service of Honoring and Ordering Ministry" at the Mountain Sky Conference. The Rev. Ashley Hawkins became a licensed local pastor and the Rev. Amber Mitts was part of a class of 10 commissioned by Bishop Karen Oliveto. The Rev. Jasper Peters was the first African-American clergyman to be elected first clergy delegate to the 2020 General Conference for the legacy Rocky Mountain Conference. Charmaine Robledo reports.

Sierra Leone Conference opens eye clinic
PORT LOKO, Sierra Leone (UM News) — For years, patients with eye diseases in the northern Sierra Leone city of Port Loko and nearby villages had to travel about 40 miles to the nearest eye clinic. A new partnership involving the Sierra Leone Conference has changed that. Phileas Jusu has the story.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UM News) — United Methodist News is posting annual conference reports. New this week are Austria Provisional, Holston, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, North Georgia, Northern Illinois, Peninsula-Delaware, Poland and Virginia. The Poland Conference ordained its first woman elder.

Council of Bishops
Bishops ask top court to rule on 5 questions

WASHINGTON — The Council of Bishops has asked the Judicial Council, the denomination’s top court, to rule on five questions related to “the constitutionality, meaning, application and effect” of some portions of the Traditional Plan previously ruled constitutional. The bishops are also asking the Judicial Council to specify exactly when the new disaffiliation legislation takes effect.
