Conference, Mt. Bethel enter mediation
MARIETTA, Ga. — The North Georgia Conference and Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church plan to enter mediation in the dispute over church property. Since last year, the conference and church have been engaged in a suit and countersuit over control of assets. After a hearing March 15, Cobb County Superior Court Judge Mary Staley Clark ordered that pending the mediation, the issue of Mt. Bethel’s closure will not be raised at the coming North Georgia Annual Conference.

Historically Black medical school receives $20 million
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — United Methodist-related Meharry Medical College has received a $20 million gift from author and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. The historically Black medical school, which has been a leader in addressing COVID-19, plans to use the funds toward developing a more diverse health care workforce and improving health equity. The school is one of 11 supported by The United Methodist Church’s Black College Fund.

In the letter, MARCHA asks eight clarifying questions about the suspension.
