George Whitefield: The first celebrity preacher?
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMC.org) — In his day, George Whitefield may have been the most well-known preacher in the American colonies. A charter member of the Holy Club with John and Charles Wesley, the trained actor and orator drew great crowds everywhere he preached. Though he and John Wesley later had a falling out over theological differences, Whitefield asked Wesley to preach at his funeral.
