A new approach to disciple-making

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Discipleship Ministries is starting a grass-roots effort called #SeeAllThePeople, aimed at inspiring a disciple-making movement across The United Methodist Church. The agency will shift its focus to provide resources, events and a discipleship system that stresses congregations forming relationships with those outside church walls.

Church pays off cafeteria accounts for needy kids

PARKER, Colo. — Tapestry United Methodist Church contributed $2,000 to a local elementary school to pay off or subsidize the cafeteria accounts of needy children. Thirty-four children were carrying balances of $50 or more, even though they were part of the reduced-cost lunch program. The Rev. Pat Bell of Tapestry reports for the Rocky Mountain Conference.

Higher Ed and Ministry releases 2 books

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two new books, “Common Worship: Tradition, Formation, Mission” by E. Byron Anderson and “The Vocation of Theology: Inquiry, Dialogue, Adoration” edited by Rex D. Matthews, were released by the Publishing Office at the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry.

Creating a digital ministry — This online workshop offers a beginner’s overview of creating a digital/online ministry, such as a YouTube Bible Study, a text message prayer chain, a Google+ video discussion group or a website blog. Participants should come into the workshop with an idea for a ministry that they would like to create. The workshop will focus on what media will work best for that idea, how to show professional excellence, how to keep the ministry secure and what to expect financially. This course from BeADisciple is eligible for 0.5 CEU and the cost is $50. Details
