INDIANAPOLIS (UM News) — An activist who believes residents are the most important key to improving in-danger neighborhoods has won a Tom Locke Innovative Leader Award from the Wesleyan Investive. Church camps are a go this summer

LITTLETON, Colo. — United Methodist camps are gearing up for a full summer of fun, friendship, learning and faith formation out in God’s creation. After the challenging summer of 2020, when most United Methodist camps were unable to host programs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, camp ministries across the United States are delighted to be open for business in 2021. AAPI group takes stage at coffee shop church

DALLAS — “Dumpling Warriors” is the name of a group of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders brought together by Union, a United Methodist coffee shop church. In a time of heightened awareness of discrimination against the AAPI community, they have bonded and shared their experiences through Union’s Naked Stage platform. Monica Frazier reports.

Arrests in theft ring that targeted churches

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Florida law enforcement announced the arrest of four suspects in a theft ring that stole more than $740,000 from 600 churches and church schools nationwide. Among the churches targeted in Florida were at least three United Methodist congregations, including multi-campus Grace United Methodist Church. Justin Kase and Brea Hollingsworth have the story.

College student honored for work on housing

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Marcinia Johnson, sophomore at United Methodist-related Bennett College and member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Charlotte, has been selected as a 2021 OZY Genius Award winner for her “anti-gentrification low-income homes for seniors” initiative. Johnson also serves as a Lina H. McCord intern for the denomination’s Black College Fund.
