Caretaker, family attacked on church property
FREETOWN, Sierra Leone (UM News) — Three United Methodists are recovering from severe injuries after an attack by a machete-wielding mob who demanded the men vacate property owned by the Sierra Leone Conference of The United Methodist Church. Two others were also injured. Phileas Jusu reports.

A journey from addict to pastor

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Six years ago, the Rev. Matt Hall would never have envisioned becoming a pastor. While going through treatment for a daily habit of opioids, alcohol and “whatever else was around,” Hall became involved with the Celebrate Recovery program at a United Methodist ministry in his hometown of Hillsville, Virginia. Today he's an associate pastor and recovery ministry leader who says he wants to walk beside people who are struggling the same way others walked with him. Annette Spence reports.

Hundreds of homes affected by Ohio tornadoes

WORTHINGTON, Ohio — A state of emergency was declared for three counties in western Ohio after a series of tornadoes and severe storms. Volunteers from McKinley, Aley, Ginghamsburg and Hoffman United Methodist churches were providing shelter, meals, bottled water, showers and cellphone charging stations to those in need. The Harris legacy: From Chicago to Manila

ATLANTA — Six generations ago, Norman Wait (N.W.) Harris — concerned about young people who had no means to pursue higher education — helped found Harris Memorial College in Rizal, Philippines. Last fall, Cristina Manabat, current president of the United Methodist-related college, was invited to meet with the Harris family via a connection made by the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries.
