Pastors grapple with artificial intelligence

AUSTIN, Texas (UM News) — The promise and problems around artificial intelligence are touching the religion world. After a United Methodist pastor used AI to craft a worship service including a sermon and hymn, the verdict from the congregation was thumbs down. “They were glad we did it,” said Jay Cooper, pastor at Violet Crown City Church, “and let’s not do it again.” Jim Patterson reports.

Congregation creates dresses for vulnerable girls

LIVONIA, N.Y. — More than 25 volunteers showed up at Livonia United Methodist Church earlier this month to cut fabric and assemble dress kits for Dress a Girl Around the World. The 284 completed dresses will be distributed by Angels of Mercy to girls of all ages who are in vulnerable situations. Upper New York Conference staff have a profile of this ministry.

Food Truck Fest lives out gospel

MACON, Ga. — Food. Festivities. Fun. Martha Bowman United Methodist Church packs all of these into its annual Food Truck Fest, which, according to organizers, is one of the church’s favorite days of the year. Allison Lindsey has the story.

Church creates LovePacs to feed kids

FLOWER MOUND, Texas — Flower Mound United Methodist Church members on Nov. 12 joined together in assembling LovePacs for students in the local school district. Children in the suburban Dallas church decorated the packs, which contain food aimed at helping families make it through the Thanksgiving break. Clarice Tinsley has the story.
