Church in Nigeria puts focus on apportionments
JALINGO, Nigeria (UM News) — The Nigeria Episcopal Area has been strategizing on ways to pay its nearly $75,000 in apportionments for 2020, including training for clergy and church members and a special Apportionment Giving Sunday. Sharon Adamu Bambuka reports.

Denominations struggle over closing small churches

ATLANTA — At Lovejoy Memorial United Methodist Church in Newnan, there’s row after row of empty pews. Usually, about 29 people attend Sunday services. Today, there are 17. Members of the North Georgia Conference recently voted to institute a minimum salary for part-time pastors and churches, which will be responsible to pay $12,750 beginning this January. Smaller churches will have to decide how to proceed. Shelia Poole reports.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The United Methodist Publishing House has acquired discount retailer Bibles by the Case, bringing it under the auspices of its Cokesbury retail division. The deal went into effect Nov. 1, and Bibles by the Case will continue as an independent division with its current management.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Discipleship Ministries of The United Methodist Church has launched its newly redesigned website, UMCDiscipleship.org, with additional features and better navigation. As the majority of the site’s visitors are church leaders preparing for weekly worship, the redesign placed a premium on helping visitors more easily find what they need. There are also free online classes available.

Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference
Register for 2020 Native Immersion Experience

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference is accepting registrations for its fourth annual Native Immersion Experience March 11-15. The event provides history, context and perspective on Native peoples in The United Methodist Church. The deadline to register is Feb. 27.
