Church ratifies women's equality amendment
LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. (UM News) — After a revote, United Methodists around the globe have ratified an amendment to the denomination's constitution that proclaims: “men and women are of equal value in the eyes of God.” The amendment received a revote because of incorrect wording in what initially was sent to annual conferences. 5 bishops pledge LGBTQ 'safe harbor'

Church continues to aid Cyclone Idai survivors
BIKITA MASVINGO, Zimbabwe (UM News) — Nearly eight months after deadly Cyclone Idai devastated parts of Zimbabwe, United Methodists continue to help survivors rebuild. A $50,000 grant from the Baltimore-Washington Conference is providing new homes for families who lost everything. Chenayi Kumuterera reports.

Churches raising money to forgive medical debt

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Rev. Jeff Hinton of First United Methodist Church in Okeene and the Rev. Emily Robnett of New Hope United Methodist Church in Enid are working together to raise $45,000 to forgive medical debt in 17 counties in northwest Oklahoma through RIP Medical Debt. The nonprofit organization can forgive up to $10,000 in debt for just $100. Other churches are joining in the effort. Meagan Ewton has the story.

Harvey to lead Council of Bishops

LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. — Louisiana Area Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey was elected president of the Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church during the bishops' meeting at Lake Junaluska Assembly. Other new officers include Bishop Thomas Bickerton, president-designate; Bishop Tracy Malone, secretary; Bishop Bruce Ough, executive secretary; Bishop Sally Dyck, ecumenical officer; and Bishop Kenneth H. Carter, past president.
