Confronting pandemic-related food insecurity

HARARE, Zimbabwe (UM News) — United Methodist groups and partners are putting their resources together to address worsening food insecurity in Zimbabwe amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Local church members, the Nyadire Connection and the United Methodist Committee on Relief are among those lending a hand. Kudzai Chingwe and Chenayi Kumuterera report.

Evangelism strategy: ‘I try to say yes’

John Legg says his policy is to “try to say yes when it comes to meeting needs in the community.” Legg and volunteers form relationships with visitors to Temple Terrace United Methodist Church. Conference honors longtime secretary, editor

METHUEN, Mass. — The New England Annual Conference will pay tribute to Clyta Faith Richardson in an online memorial service at 1 p.m. U.S. Eastern time Oct. 17. Richardson, who died April 21 at 104, served as administrative assistant to the late Bishop James K. Mathews, secretary to the Council of Bishops, editor of the Book of Discipline and secretary of the General Conference.

Porch parties keep connections during pandemic

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The Rev. Kimberley Arbaugh, pastor at Carrollton First United Methodist Church, is promoting porch parties as a way of keeping congregants connected during the coronavirus pandemic. She provides noisemakers and brings along individual prepackaged kits for communion. Brett Hetherington has the story.

ATLANTA — Applications for the 2021-23 Global Mission Fellows on the US-2 track opened Oct. 12. The fall application deadline is Nov. 30, 2020, and the spring application deadline is Feb. 24, 2021. Placement matches will be assigned throughout the selection process, so early application is encouraged.
