Boreholes bring ‘sigh of relief’ in Uganda

JINJA, Uganda (UM News) — Accessing clean water in some parts of Uganda is difficult, especially for girls and women who are usually responsible for walking long distances to fetch water, often from unsafe sources. The addition of five boreholes near United Methodist churches in the Uganda-South Sudan Conference will alleviate that problem for some. Vivian Agaba has the story.

Historic Texas church burns

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas — The 1910 sanctuary of Wallace United Methodist Church was destroyed by fire on Oct. 15, leaving little besides a historical marker and a monument bearing the Ten Commandments. The congregation has lined up other places to meet. No cause for the blaze has been determined.

Black Methodists for Church Renewal
Caucus calls for action after shooting

FORT WORTH, Texas — Black Methodists for Church Renewal, a United Methodist caucus, issued a statement of solidarity with the family of Atatiana Jefferson “and the local residents of Fort Worth who demand justice.” The caucus also urges that sessions be organized where black women and men will be heard and equipped to address the damage done to them in the wake of this and other tragedies.
