Shining a light on global migration crisis

ATLANTA (UMNS) — On Dec. 3, United Methodist churches are encouraged to participate in a day of prayer and special offering to support displaced people around the world. Oklahoma churches gain historic status

TULSA, Okla. — Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in Tulsa and First United Methodist Church of Oklahoma City have joined four other Oklahoma locations as official United Methodist Historic Sites. Chris Schutz reports for the Oklahoma Conference.

Efforts to save Lake Junaluska bridge

LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. — The Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center bridge has served travelers for more than 100 years. In 2016, the bridge was closed due to deteriorating steel support beams. This summer, the center’s board voted to restore the bridge to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, a project estimated to cost more than $1 million.

Garrett professor leads theology society

EVANSTON, Ill. — The Rev. Trina Armstrong, an assistant professor at United Methodist Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, has been named president and chair of the Society for Pastoral Theology. She is also an ordained elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Coppock named head of Strength for Service

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Larry Coppock, director of Scouting and youth-serving agencies for the Commission on United Methodist Men, will retire from that position on June 1, 2018, to become executive director of the Strength for Service Corporation.

New Wineskins Conference — The Missouri Conference is hosting a time of structured learning and candid conversation for conference leaders and church planters from across the United States. The gathering will be at Salem United Methodist Church, 1200 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis. The Revs. Jacob Armstrong, Andrew Forrest, Jasmine Smothers, Matt Miofsky and Bishop Robert Farr will teach how to avoid putting new wine into old wineskins. Details
