Norma Kehrberg, first woman to lead UMCOR dies
ATLANTA — Norma J. Kehrberg, a longtime United Methodist missionary and the first woman to lead a major Protestant disaster relief agency, died Oct. 6 at 81, following a long illness. A missionary in Nepal for nearly 25 years, she was head of the United Methodist Committee on Relief from 1984-91. Elliott Wright reports.

Communication board urges mission together
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The board that oversees United Methodist Communications advocated for the use of effective communication practices to help bring the denomination together in mission. During its Oct. 1-2 meeting, the 27-member board directed agency staff to work toward helping church members engage those whom they disagree.

Coalition formed for 'new movement of Methodism’
DES MOINES, Wash. — Bishop Elaine JW Stanovsky has announced the formation of a Greater Northwest Area Guiding Coalition that will help shape a “new movement of Methodism” in that episcopal area — a movement she said will be fully inclusive of LGBTQ people. The area includes the Alaska, Oregon-Idaho and Pacific Northwest conferences.
