Churches pick up after Sally

GULF BREEZE, Fla. (UM News) — Hurricane Sally left a lot of United Methodists feeling they’d experienced a bad storm that could have been much worse. Some Alabama-West Florida Conference churches that had damaged buildings still hoped to have services this Sunday. Sam Hodges reports.

ICE arrests Glenmont member, caretaker

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Baltimore-Washington Bishop LaTrelle Easterling and other United Methodists are seeking the release of Binsar Siahaan, an undocumented Indonesian immigrant who is a member and caretaker at Glenmont United Methodist Church. Siahaan, who has lived in the U.S. for three decades, was arrested at his home on church grounds and detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to await deportation despite pending appeals. Meagan Flynn has the story.

Pati Graham, a certified lay minister and member at Bryson City United Methodist Church, took the lead in launching Pass It On Café, a new way of doing church that combines community meals with art projects.
