PITTSBURG, Calif. — Faced with the isolation of the pandemic, Esther Taufa and Lesila Leger of Pittsburg United Methodist Church wanted to find a way to connect with their fellow young adults. Their prayers and initiative led to Café Agape, an online ministry that now has grown to include in-person gatherings. Conference lay leaders have awarded the ministry a $1,100 grant.

Pastor receives Asbury award on milestone anniversary
PRINCETON, N.J. — In the year marking the 250th anniversary of Francis Asbury arriving in the U.S. to organize the new Methodist Church in the British colonies, a New Jersey pastor will receive an award named after American Methodism’s pioneering bishop. The Rev. Erik “Skitch” Matson of Princeton United Methodist Church and the Wesley Foundation was one of 10 recipients of the Board of Higher Education and Ministry’s Francis Asbury Award, which recognizes and encourages outstanding support of higher education and campus ministries.
