Seeking solutions for human trafficking 

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (UM News) — A floating village that is home to “boat people” who fled Vietnam vividly illustrated for a United Methodist group the economic hardships that have made Cambodia one of the worst countries for human trafficking. The Rev. Thomas Kim reports on the visit of a mission team that included Korean American United Methodists and United Methodist Board of Global Ministries staff members.

Texas Conference
Imelda deluges Southeast Texas

BEAUMONT, Texas — As torrential rains pelted Southeast Texas, members of the Texas Conference scrambled to assist those in need. United Methodist Church officials on the ground said Tropical Depression Imelda caused worse flooding in some places than Hurricane Harvey did in 2017. Bruce Tomaso reports.

Special annual conference passes 8 resolutions

GOLD CANYON, Ariz. — The Desert Southwest Conference held a special session Sept. 14. During the gathering, voters adopted eight resolutions. The resolutions are aspirational and shape the year-round work of the annual conference. Christina Dillabough reports.

West Ohio Conference
Returning entrusted land in Ohio

UPPER SANDUSKY, Ohio — With tears in his eyes, Chief Billy Friend of the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma accepted a land deed from Thomas Kemper, top executive, United Methodist Board of Global Ministries. Nearly 600 people present at the Sept. 21 ceremony rose to their feet and applauded while Wyandotte from Oklahoma, Kansas and Michigan lifted celebratory cries. Kay Panovec reports.
