NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UM News) — The advocacy group UM-Forward is proposing legislation to General Conference that would dissolve The United Methodist Church and form four new denominations. The group identifies the new churches as traditionalist, moderate, progressive and liberationist. Heather Hahn reports.

Bishop plays peacekeeping role in Central Congo
LODJA, Congo (UM News) — United Methodist Bishop Daniel Lunge Onashuyaka is playing a peacekeeping role in the Sankuru Province, which is home to the Central Congo Conference and its more than 500 United Methodist churches. The region has been facing violence since the election of the provincial governor in July. Pierre Omadjela reports.

Church takes VBS on the road

DALLAS — University Park United Methodist Church conducted two vacation Bible schools this summer: one at its church and one at Dallas Bethlehem Center, an organization that serves children and families living in poverty in South Dallas. "Serving our neighbors is what we're called to do, and it's a part of teaching the kids what it means to be disciples," said Alison Jacob, the church's minister to children and families.

WASHINGTON — The United Methodist Commission on Religion and Race now offers a free online course on implicit bias, designed for people to take at their own pace. The course aims to help people take an intentional look at implicit bias, learn the ways it works in brains and in actions so they can break down barriers.
