Partners help pastor revitalize struggling church
EŁK, Poland (UM News) — When the Rev. Dariusz Zuber and his wife, Monika, came to God’s Love United Methodist Church in northeastern Poland in July 2012, they found a congregation yearning for new life. To implement their vision for the church, the couple invited not only parishioners but also nonprofit organizations and municipal institutions. Urs Schweizer reports.

Pastor’s passion for fishing feeds crowds
CHARLESTON, S.C. — What does a fisherman pastor do when he finds himself leading a small urban church in a poverty-stricken community? He heads out in a boat, catches a bunch of fish and holds a free community fish fry. Thus began Mount Carmel United Methodist Church’s monthly meal giveaway. “As a pastor, I can’t preach to hungry people,” said the Rev. Nathan Smalls. Jessica Brodie has the story.

Demanding justice for Native Americans
ATLANTA — Equity and justice for Native Americans are called for in a statement from Global Ministries and 10 other United Methodist boards and agencies. The statement endorses the national Day of Remembrance set for Sept. 30 for victims and survivors of boarding schools, which stripped many Native Americans of their culture. The groups also pledge an investigation of boarding schools associated with the denomination.

‘Get Your Spirit in Shape’ plans 100th episode
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — “Get Your Spirit in Shape,” a United Methodist Communications podcast, is set to release its 100th episode on Sept. 30 as part of the agency’s International Podcast Day celebration. The milestone segment features California-Nevada Conference Bishop Minerva Carcaño, the first Hispanic woman to be elected bishop within the denomination.
