BOSTON (UMNS) - The Rev. Romeo del Rosario, a United Methodist missionary, was named one of four distinguished alumni by Boston University School of Theology in 2012. He spent his early life in the Philippines and remembers the work of United Methodist missionaries there. Their dedication sparked his desire to serve the global church.

Bishop Hoshibata shapes vision for malaria fight

WASHINGTON (UMNS) - Before the day was over Dec. 4, Bishop Robert T. Hoshibata and members of the Imagine No Malaria delegation had visited 13 Senate and House offices on Capitol Hill to advocate for continued support of the fight against malaria. The bishop shares his thoughts on the United Methodist campaign against malaria and his conference's goal to raise $2 million for that fight.

Church foundation stands against human trafficking

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) - The United Methodist Church Foundation, meeting Nov.14-16, voiced a commitment to thwart the human-trafficking epidemic through its shareholder advocacy program. The foundation is an active member of the Interfaith Center for Corporate Responsibility, which works on issues of accountability with publicly traded companies.

Dec. 13 - Free online interfaith roundtable discussion on clergy ethics, 11 a.m. to noon PST, sponsored by the FaithTrust Institute in Seattle. The United Methodist Commission on the Status and Role of Women is among the participants. Details.

Dec. 14 - Deadline for United Methodist clergy, ages 35 and younger, to apply for United Methodist Board of Church and Society's Young Clergy Leadership Forum, Feb. 4-6, United Methodist Building on Capitol Hill. An additional event on Feb. 7-8 will give participants a chance to engage in public policy. Details.

Dec. 24-25 - Christmas Eve and Christmas. The United Methodist Board of Discipleship has worship resources and musings on popular Christmas hymns.

Dec. 31-Jan. 1 - Prefer your New Year's Eve sacred not stirred? The United Methodist Board of Discipleship has watch night and devotional resources in English and Spanish to start the year.

Jan. 2-5 - 2013 Congress of Evangelism, Crowne Plaza at Rivinia, Dunwoody, Ga. Speakers include Bishop Lindsey Davis, the Rev. Sharma D. Lewis and the Rev. H. Eddie Fox. Details.

Jan. 6 - Epiphany, the celebration of the magi's visit to Christ, lands on a Sunday in 2013. The United Methodist Board of Discipleship has worship resources and blessings.

Jan. 10 - Free webinar "Stewardship and Finance: Getting It Right at the Starting Line," 6:30 p.m. CST, for stewardship team, finance committee and church council members from the United Methodist Board of Discipleship.
