A large rally in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, held in the wake of a deadly school shooting, had strong representation from United Methodist clergy and laity. The agenda was to support stricter gun laws and other social justice goals that the organizer said are intertwined.
United Methodist and other clergy joined together at the Tennessee State Capitol to speak out for gun control and against the removal of three state representatives and the disenfranchisement of their constituents.
“Ash Wednesday has come early,” said Michigan Conference Bishop David Bard at a prayer vigil less than 24 hours after a mass shooting at Michigan State University shook the state.
